Kelly:
I will base my interview on your musical career
Ysk:
Alright sir
Kelly:
What would you say about the music industry and it content as an experienced musician
Ysk:
As a gospel artist I will say the music industry here in Nigeria is actually doing well but only few persons are doing music, the likes of brymo, Simi and adekunle gold.. Asa, Aramide fela, etc. These are people I respect and I love their sounds. The gospel music should preach life and teach the content of the Bible and talk about the fullness of who Christ is, we should not only depend on the pastor's to hear the word of God. We should be able to get it from gospel songs.
Kelly:
What drew you to the music industry?
Ysk:
Music as I will always say is life, sound, melodies harmonies, rhythem makes life. Life is useless without it, what am trying to say is music should restore a soul and and as someone who wants to tell something, I want to preach and give hope to people, that brought about my love for music, though music choose me, and I am working everyday to make it better.
Kelly:
what are your creative processes in using music as a tool and what's your success in music in an average day?
Ysk:
I try to make music simple and I make my message easy to be translated by any listener, it should be about Reality, it should about heaven, it should be defining the problems in the society n my environment. My success so far in music has been amazing thou am yet to be heard as I want it but I believe I have been an impact to many.
Kelly:
(It's good to believe in oneself, It's the greatest of all)
OK how many songs have you released to the hearing of the masses and
Is there a hidden meaning in any of your music?
Ysk:
4songs so far. Mockers, With a Melody, I need a vision and Appreciate (And Thank you Lord a song i was ft on by Young wilcee)
Mockers was actually a song I used in expressing my pain at that moment.
With a Melody and Appreciation are songs of gratitude
Kelly:
How has the reaction of your fans been about these songs negative/positive??
Ysk:
It been amazing and they have been great. Thou my sound kept changing because for these are moments I was using to look for my kind of melody, my kind of voice, to Know my pace, where I belong. And believe me you now I do, so I will say they should expect a lot of great and amazing sound from me
Kelly:
In doing music would you prefer a collaboration or just yourself ??
Ysk:
I would love doing collaboration at first I just wanted me myself alone. But now I will love collaborations but for my new projects it would be me first. Then later maybe the next would be collaboration
Kelly:
In pursuit of your music career why do you need a manager?
Ysk:
I have tried it alone it not working, so I decided to go for a manager that will be in charge of managing and making decisions that will make the brand work. Someone that will bring the brand to a landmark. Successful artist are know for having great managers
Kelly:
With the impact you've made in the Music industry discuss how you still interact with and respond to fans??
Ysk:
I don't think see them as fans I see them as family, I relate with them as friends and when I find them interesting, I bring them close, I don't have issues reacting well to fans
Kelly:
In the Music industry what has been your favorite part and your least favorite part (The industry has different part ranging from the recording to stage performance to writing a song to collaborating with another artistes to building a good name for yourself) ?
Ysk:
I love building a name but building a name has to start with the above mention parts. With a good band I prefer performing live my sound. But recording has been a more comfortable aspect of my life as an artist
Kelly:
(Belonging to an industry everything, in it should be a favorite). What has been your inspiration?
Ysk:
My inspiration is to make an impact, to be able to help a soul that is wounded get heal. I want to be a mouth piece they could listen to and inspired to move on.
Kelly:
Whose footstep are you following and what advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?
Ysk:
I know you would want me to mention a gospel artist. Well am sorry. I am Fuji, afro, juju artist. I follow the footstep of king sunny ade & brymo.
Kelly:
What do you think a gospel art is all about?
Ysk:
A gospel art should be an artist that can speak the good news, and speak life in his or her sound, a gospel should be able to translate Christ and speak about love. A gospel art should be an embodiment of good news
Kelly:
(Exactly the part I love too well about the gospel is the goodnews and I will let you know that I wasn't expecting you to mention any of the gospel folks name. If those people you mention translate the goodnews well to your satisfaction then you're good to Go. I love your SPIRIT!!!) What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow your footstep?
Ysk:
If you believe in me, be your own inspiration, impact yourself with the positive things of life, then you would appreciate you, for you, because our journey are different so is our success story. Don't try to be like me, just know how I am doing it for directions. We are not same persons.
Kelly:
(Learning the principle and applying it in your own way is different from copying the step). Have you ever dealt with performance anxiety?
Ysk:
So many times up till now. But I believe now with a great band and practice I won't feel it that much
Kelly:
Tell me about your favorite performance venues and why is it your favourite?
Ysk:
Rccg precious people parish. It was a freestyle I was so scared that that night but During the performance the drummer, the pianist where all on point and it made the ministration a smooth one and the message of the ministration was passed with great joy on everyones face. Thou these is my best as a solo artist I used to in a rap group n we have had amazing performance together.
Kelly:
How do you handle mistakes during a performance?
Ysk:
When I forget a line in my song I just turn it to a freestyle without anyone noticing or I just let the instrument play, it afro it not easy to detect mistakes. At times when the instrumentlist are not in the tune again then that gets me frustrated. I try to give them signs to do what it should be but not Everytime they get to understand.
Kelly:
To always bring out the best at every performance for how long and how often do you practice?
Ysk:
When I used to be in my rap group we practice like always twice a week. Before going for any performance. For now I am still trying to get my team I believe for any performance we should practice twice a week and it should be 4hrs a day to bring out the best.
Kelly:
Lastly then we call it a goal
How do you balance your music career with other obligations?
Ysk:
That's the challenge, it not been easy, for now I have not been doing music as I should but with the help of @Moral Allen ( manager) I should be able to give more attention.
Kelly:
Thanks for your time
Ysk:
Thanks sir. I appreciate
