GB Article: Activating the power of your thoughts - F.A.E Odharo

Every man is a product of his thoughts. You are what you think most of the time. “For as he thinketh in his heart so is he” (Prov. 23:7). Whatever you are today is as a result of your thoughts yesterday. What you think today will determine how your life will turn out to be tomorrow. The first step to knowing yourself is evaluating what you think most of the time, because you are what you think.
There is no force that can stop a man who has made the right investment in his thought, as nothing can help a man who has failed to invest in his thought. Sometimes you wonder why your life is the way it is? Focus on your thought. You can control your life by controlling your thoughts. “It became obvious to me as a little boy to beware of my thought. My poor dad was not poor because of the amount of money he received, but because of his thoughts and actions” (Robert T. Kiyasoki).
Your thoughts control your life. Every action is a direct consequence of your thought. An action repeatedly done becomes a habit. Your habit builds your character and your character determines your destiny. Your thoughts not only control your character, but also your circumstances. Hence, your inner disposition and outer condition are directly proportional to your thoughts.
Isn’t it wonderful to hear that your thoughts control both the things that happen through and to you? But that is the truth. This follows the law of attraction as proposed by Isaac Newton, trying to explain his “gravitational force”. Hence you attract in the natural world what you think about most of the time. Has anything ever happened around you and you discovered that you had a premonition of it before it actually happened? Now you understand what I am talking about! You can control everything by your thought. You can even control the thoughts of others by your thought.
With your thoughts, you can create your world. Your thoughts can make or break you. Good thoughts and actions cannot produce bad result, much as bad thoughts and actions cannot produce good results. Thought is the mother of invention. Everything you can see today started as somebody’s thought. So, there is a correspondence between what you achieve or fail to achieve and your thoughts. For you to achieve any good thing in life, you must activate the power of your thoughts.
Your mind is the seat of your thought. It is like a garden. If you do not cultivate the right crops in it, weeds would overrun it. In the same manner, you must plant the right thoughts in your mind or it would absorb the wrong ideas. This is because it is ideas that the mind feeds on. No wonder Prov. 4:23 warn us: “Keep thy heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life”. The word “diligence” there means carefulness through conscious efforts. This is especially so because “the mind is ever the ruler of the universe” (Plato). It is from the mind proceed thoughts that shape your destiny. Roman 10:8 says “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh”.
So how can you activate the power of your thoughts? Romans 12:2 says, “And be not conform to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God”. The renewal of your mind is a deliberate effort to change your perspective on the issues of life, with the aim of improving them through thoughts. This is possible but follows a process.
• Have a definite purpose: “Until your thought is linked with purpose, there is no intelligence” (James Allen). The first step to engaging your thoughts creatively is to define what you want to achieve. Purpose is like a road map that guides one to fulfilment. In the same manner, you must have an object of thought before you think about it.
• Don’t allow weeds in your mind: It is not enough to have an idea of what you want. You must cultivate and nurture it to maturity. “Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life- think of it, and live on the idea” (Swami Vivekananda). This follows the law of concentration which says, “Whatever you dwell upon, grows and expands in your life”. Joshua 1:8 says, “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success”.
• Move to action: The determination to see the things you imagine is not enough. You have to activate your thoughts by living the life you think through practice. Thought without corresponding action is a waste of time. Your thought should push you to live the life you want. Otherwise you cannot become what you think. If you want to achieve anything, your thought and your action should complement each other because thought without action is labour lost while action without thought is perilous.

Conclusively, you can do everything with your thought if you properly engage it. Nothing happens by chance. You are as intelligent as you think. You are as rich as you think. You are as poor as you think. You are as happy as you think. You are as sick as you think. You are what you think. Think positively and think right. “

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any praise, think on these things” (Philippians 4:8).
